The South Lyon rail bypass (CFAL) is a proposed new twin-track system for freight and passenger trains (high-speed and regional).
This new infrastructure covering a distance of approximately 25 km on the south section (vs. 50 km on the north section) will meet growing demand for freight traffic on the North-South route passing through the Lyon region. It is among several major additions to the transport infrastructure in the Rhône-Alpes region.
The bypass will not only make the freight transport offering more attractive and competitive but also free up capacity on existing lines, especially at Lyon Part-Dieu station, to boost regional passenger traffic.
