The aim of this project was to facilitate bus rapid transit operations on the RN4 main road and A351 motorway between Ittenheim and Strasbourg as part of a local right-of-way public transport project. The first section, between Wasselonne and Ittenheim, was opened in 2016.
The project involved:
- creating a dedicated public transport lane on a 4.2 km section of the A351 hard shoulder,
- widening a 4.8 km section of the RN4 to create an extra lane for public transport in each direction,
- fully dropping the RN4 – RD228 junction to improve safety,
- these new dedicated lanes were combined with dedicated operating facilities (dynamic signaling, video surveillance, access regulation and control, etc.).
